RoRetc Contest Year 2

Ok who remembers this from last year ?

.... pick a position player from the Royals hopefully a starter but you may put up to 2 others if I want Butler you'd write Butler/Gordon/DeJesus
Butler would be the first choice if he didn't start then it would go to Gordon and so on.
Pick a player before each game and here's how we play if you pick Butler and he goes 2-5 with 1 HR and 3 RBI then the next night you pick DeJesus and he goes 0-5 with a K. Your season stats would be AVG .200 HR 1 RBI 3 BB 0 K 1.
Got it?
Any questions please ask.
You must wait 2 turns till you can pick the same player IE you pick Gordon then the next night you have 8 to choose from then 7 then back to 8 players.
I will have a prize for the best overall player(person) as I choose and maybe smaller prize if you win a stat category.
STATS are: Hits AVG HR RBI SB BB will also keep SO but you don't want to win that.
Sound like fun? .

Well that was then, the contest is back baby !!!
Will anyone be able to defeat the defending title holder SaHurst and his Mark Teahenish last year ?
Well this year the stats are: Avg, Hits, Runs, 2B's,3B's,HR, RBI, K/BB, and new this year Stolen bases.
Also new this year just email me at your pick to make it easier on you readers, I'll keep track and post an update every once and awhile...
ALSO if you don't want to pick a player to make it easier still just pick a position ie C/1B/2B/etc.
but you can't pick the same position twice in a row you need 450 AB's to qualify.

Newer still you may pick a starting pitcher 30-34 times during the year same requirements you can't pick a guy back to back.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments as it's late and maybe I'm not thinking straight, haha.

Thanks for competing and good luck ~~~
PS. The Prize will be at least as good as last years maybe better ........ but no matter what a great prize.

Why would you go to the K to watch baseball ?

Daddy can we go to the K and ride the rides ?

Why would you go to the K to watch baseball ?
I mean with a carousel (for a $1), MLB2K9 Game lounge ( I hate the 2K series bring back EA's MVP, and what happens in 2010 ?) Little K ($1), and mini golf ($1) and more !!!

I mean I didn't know Worlds of Fun had opened a new location.
It's one thing to have some stuff for the kiddos but it's still a baseball game (we think). And therfore I'll never experience the lure of the outfield again it was one thing to share the OF with drunk college kids but now it'll be like an amusement park out there.

Anyway if you see some guy out there someday not partaking in the "Outfield Experience" extravaganza but just watching the game and keeping score. It might be me because I can hold it for all 9+ innings and it's a good thing because we here there might be tokens available for $1 throughout the ballpark in case you gotta go.
Also the new roller coaster should open in early 2010 !!!
(just kidding)

EDIT: Were was this Outfield experience form 04 to 06 when we actually needed it !!!!

Quick hits:
  • Who remembers when the Royals returned C Ronny Paulino to the Pirates ? He's a Fish now.
  • "I thought he was outstanding," Hillman said. "I thought he had a great day." We heart HoRam stickers available now !!
  • Why does Kc not go ahead and just DL Bale ? We all know it's going to happen no way he'll be ready by April 6
  • I'm sick of Jose Guillen for no reason right now.

Steal Steal Steal

Robbers and Criminals
The Kansas City Royals announced a new partnership with Sonic today the "Steal a Base, Steal a Sonic Slush" ticket promotion.
Throughout the 2009 season, fans can show their Royals tickets at any Kansas City-area Sonic drive-in following a home game in which the Royals steal a base and receive a free medium Famous Slush. The ticket promotion is valid until midnight the following night.

"Now fans have another reason to cheer for Royals stolen bases," said Katie Coulter, Field Marketing Representative for Kansas City Sonic Drive-Ins. "We are excited to partner with the Royals on this promotion and we are confident we'll be awarding fans with Sonics' Famous Slushes all season long!"

Thank God for Coco Crisp just wish we had Willie Wilson huh ?
Also who thinks this will last longer then Panera Bread's failed attempt ? I haven't had Panera since....

Royals reassigned Heath Phillips and Tommy Murphy to minor league camp just a day after Bob Dutton named Murphy, along with B. Pena, and Roman Colon as three long shots to watch.

After tonight the World Baseball Classic will be over.
I'm still no differant to it then last time and I'll set on the fence all day. For the most part I don't like it but then the other part of me loves to watch the Korean fans really get into it, it's like the world series in March.
But if it were to continue and I was President I'd sign a bill making the US stars play. Otherwise can we just pull the US out ? It IS OUR national pastime !

Anyone else a little scared by Kagel's articles on Sir Sid ? They just seem to scream Tomko/HoRam and I wouldn't want to be Brian Bannister I'd say right now he is the odd man out.

1,000 !!!
Thanks to all you readers we reached the 1,000 vistor since the counter was added Feb. 15 today (1,024).
Also thank you to the eight of you guys who are "followers'" of my blog.
Again thanks to all of you who take time to read.

Update on Houston Astro-yals

We are all wondering about the Houston (Ast[ro)yals] aren't we ?

So I talked (emailed) my Astros contact Dying Quail of the Astro's blog Crawfish Boxes and asked him how some of our favorite former Royals were doing.
I asked about Lumsden, Smith, and Fulchino.
I would ask about Neal Musser but no one really cares right ???

On Tyler Lumsden:
Lumsden looks like he'll end up at AAA, but there are still two weeks left for an injury or two to occur and land him a job in the bullpen maybe?

EDIT: Lumsden was officially assigned to the minor league camp, which really dampens his shot at the making the 25-man roster.

On whether Jason Smith and or my favorite Jeff Fulchino would make the team:
It's hard for me to say exactly. My best guess is neither. Smith has hit well, but not played good enough defense for me to think he'll get a spot on the roster, especially with Maysonet coming on as of late. Fulchino doesn't seem to really have a chance.
So there you have it, as we see how or former beloved are fairing because even an ex still has a piece of your heart.......

Thanks again to DyingQuail

I dispute this , Muhammad Ali became the Royals' No. 1 fan on Friday night ???
Are you freakin kidding me ?
Gosh it'd sure be nice to be a celebrity huh ?
Yeah the Royals of all teams doing something like that, it's nothing to get worked up about but after all those bouts who wants to bet Ali doesn't even remember were the Royals are from ?

So much for being the working man's team.......

Number 1 fan according to Bagel.
Ali departed the matchup in the middle of the fifth inning.

Mission Impossible

It appears that the Royals first Japanese player Mac Suzuki isn't quite done yet.

Suzuki was in the Royals' camp on this morning for a tryout.
He threw in the bullpen for members of the Royals' front office

He has also thrown for the Indians and plans to throw for the Dodgers later this week.

"I'm looking for any kind of opportunity right now," he said. "I feel strong and healthy."
At this point he's a poor man's Oil Can

Royals sign Pondson ?

Royals ink Sir Sidney to a milb deal:
He's going to get an opportunity," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. "Our depth is not what we wish it was."

Per Dicky Kagel:

Presumably, Ponson could make a bid for the Royals' starting rotation, pitch in relief or go to the Triple-A club at Omaha. Moore said Ponson indicated he'd be willing to play at the Triple-A level.

It was just one year and 10 days ago I first pondered the Royals might sign Sir* Sidney.
(*After the 2003 season, he was made a knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands)

Yes this is the same Sidney who Denny Matthews has said more then once:

When will teams realize this guy doesn't know how to pitch.

The Same Sidney who's had many DUI's , sucked down the O's money, kicked out of Texas, punched a judge.....

Yep we all remember Dayton saying he wanted a "model" team no bad boys,
Well after Brown, Colon, Perez, etc, and now Ponson it's getting harder to believe.

Bottom line Sidney failed in his attempt to regain form in St.Louis, failed with the Yankees, failed with the Twins, failed with the Rangers, and failed with the Yankees again.

Why do I have the feeling Sidney will get a chance in Kc ???

Since last week was "Severe Weather Awareness Week"
Here's what would happen in the event of a tornado warning during a game at Kaufman:

We would prepare our staff ahead of time as to what were about to do. Then we would invite those guests up on view level to come down and take cover. If the weather was continuing to get worse and we needed for everyone to take cover we would make a public address announcement stating that due to severe weather conditions we ask for everyone to move to the level 2 central services tunnel and follow the instructions of a Royals event staff member. The announcement would also be placed on the Crown Vision board. We would open the all the stadium gates to allow those on the outside to come in for shelter and we would advise guests not to attempt to drive or otherwise leave the stadium as it would be unsafe to do so.

Sisco Sisco Man and more

Do the Royal NEED a Lefty in the rotation ?
3 (18%)
13 (81%)

Votes so far: 16

Guess not and it's a good thing because we'd never be able to find one since the A's signed former Royal great Andy Sisco.
Yep the Royals sure missed out on a great milb signing just glad we didn't spend $1.8million on a guy who will make the rotation and posted a has a career 5.11 ERA in the second half of a season.
Oh wait we did...
Now don't get me wrong if Horacio makes the team I'll cheer for him I'll wish he makes the All-Star game but for right now I'll root against him, not against Kc but Horacio it's just part if the fun of Spring Training rooting for guys like DiNardo and against Ramirez.
But when the season starts let's go Horacio !!!

According to MLBTR because I'd never know this otherwise but it appears that the Cardinals Skip Schumaker 2B experiment is not going so well. St.Louis GM John Mozeliak may explore a trade to fill the position but will not sign a FA 2B, such as Grudzielanek.
Dang it
Maybe if Callaspo screws up we could trade him or you know Teahen can play 2B.........

The Nationals are REALLY desperate first it was Odalis Perez who wasn't that bad but now I can't say the same for this signing.
Yep the Nats signed the only guy who could make Scott Elarton look like a number 3 starter,
Kip Wells who last year with the Royals posted a 8.71 ERA and make folks long for Hideo Nomo.

Braves released pitcher Anthony Lerew. The Braves had out-righted Lerew to make room on the 40-man roster for Glavine. He’d cleared waivers and accepted a AAA assignment.
One would have to think Dayton might be interested based on his Brave old background.
And if your going to give Bruce Chen a milb contract.....

I don't know about you but after the WBC I think the Royals should go out and sign Pedro Martinez, originally Jack at the TRT had said something about it and I balked saying Pedro had lost it but I say my mind was changed last night. I mean a Rotation of:
  • Meche
  • Greinke
  • Martinez
  • Davies
  • Hochevar/Bannister
wouldn't win some games ?
Trade/cut Gload or Teahen there's your spot on the 40 man roster and then at the worst Bannister and Hochevar start the year in AAA (We love HoRam because of the coolness of the word HoRam like an old scout would say to another: One look at him and I knew he was a HoRammer)

Look for the RoRetc season long batting contest were you can win a great prize. FREE.
Coming soon

Interview with Clint of Royal Report Card

Below is an interview with Clint of the new Royals blog Royal Report Card
Be sure to check out his blog it's really good.
Hope you enjoy.

First off tell us about your blog Royal Report Card and Why should people go to your blog ?

My blog, RRC, is something that I contemplated doing for a long time. I finally decided to take the plunge once I figured out the format that I wanted. It is a blog that is updated at least once daily, with its main focus being to go over game scores, news, etc. I also take the opportunity every few days or so to write an "article" on an important topic. A few examples of "articles" I have done so far include a comparison of Johnny Giavotella and reigning AL MVP Dustin Pedroia, and an explanation on why I think Chris Lubanski is still a promising prospect. People should visit my blog because it is a one stop source for news and opinions. I try to keep most of my writing light and humorous, and I do my best to utilize my love for stats without going overboard so that the average fan won't have any trouble understanding my arguments.

Most you've paid for a Royals hat

30 bux for a new era Wichita wranglers fitted cap.

Favorite moment as a Royals fan ?

Favorite moment as a Royals fan - When I was at a Royals game and I called Mark Teahen hitting two home runs.. and he did!

Thoughts on the WBC (World Baseball Classic) ?

WBC - I love it. I wish it got more play in the media and throughout baseball. We need the WBC in order to help create more interest in baseball around the world.

So you love the WBC, what are your thoughts about MLB starting the season last year in Japan ?

I am not a big fan of playing in-season games overseas, however I think that it would be a good idea to play a pre-season 2 game series overseas. I'm all for increasing the popularity of baseball around the world, but I don't want that to come at the cost of real MLB in-season games.

Mike Sweeney plays in the majors again ?

I don't think so, though the Mariners are an awful team. He has 3 plate appearances this spring (0-2 with a BB), so it doesn't seem like the M's are really trying to get a good look. Who knows though, I think he has the talent to play on probably 5-10 teams, but I just don't think he'll get the opportunity. He would probably be a first bat off the bench type of player for those teams, but they would probably prefer someone who is younger.

Hot dogs at the K mustard, ketchup, relish ?

Relish, unless you're talking about what I like to eat on them, then all three. But in the hot dog race, definitely relish.

Royals will fare how well this season ?

I believe the Royals will have a 80 and 82 record and finish 3rd in the division

When you played baseball (if you did) what position did you play ?

I used to be a middle infielder, primarily playing at 2B.

What blogs/boards do you visit the most ?

I visit It might be dangerous you go first (Paul DePodesta's blog), Rany on the Royals, Royalcentricity, Royals on radio etc., Royallyspeaking, MLB trade rumors, Jayson Stark and Buster Olney's ESPN blogs, Sam Mellinger's Blog, The RC board. All daily, pretty much.

Most annoying MLB broadcasters?

Joel "most awkward man ever" Goldberg. Enough said.

Most annoying MLB team ?

New York Yankees. Enough said.

Most annoying MLB fans

New York Yankees fans. Enough said. I also don't care much for cubs fans, but at least the cubs have been awful for a long time, so it doesn't really matter.

Thoughts on commissioner Bud Selig?

I think Bud isn't really looked at in a fair light. He has really been villainized by many for "causing" the steroids era, or at least not being a whistleblower. While I don't think it's his fault completely, I do think he had a role in the whole mess (obviously). That being said, I feel like he was doing his best to watch out for the sport, especially in the short term. He is a money minded commissioner in a money minded era. Overall I approve of him and grade him out as a B+ just because of how much dough the MLB brings in.

Any final thoughts ?

I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank you for this interview. Hopefully the Royals go out and have a monster season. Oh, and the next time the Royals need a GM, I hope they go out and get Paul DePodesta!

German released

Royals released Esteban German today after he cleared waivers I would have thought he could have at least garnered a PTBNL.
German in his Royal career played in 316 games, 843 AB, 236 Hits, 47 2Bs, 14 3Bs, 7 HRs, 93 RBI, 25 SB's, held a .279 AVG and walked an amazing 101 times !!!
He truly was a Royal legend

What are the odds on J.R. House ?
Not that he'll make the team but that he'll get a hit this spring before being shipped to minor league camp ? Or even if he'll make the team without a springtime hit. As we all know ST stats are meaningless.....
LaRue anyone ???

Rotation Wars
Bannister was roughed up by the Cubs today so that bods well for Hochevar.
But why ?
Bannister should have a rebound year and Hoch the 1st OVERALL pick a few years ago has impressed me (except for a homerun surrendered to Chicken Little)and should be given a spot in the rotation. Yet the man crush on Horacio continues. Sure Horacio had bad fielding but bad fielding doesn't account for 15 Hits against Bannister's 8 and Hochevar's 6/

Will we ?
Will we see Oscar Villarreal or Victor Marte pitch this Spring ?

World Baseball Classic
Updated Brackets Here, it's March Madness !!!!
Royals in the classic:

DiNardo (Italy) 1 APP, 0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, it was earned
Chen (Panama) 1 GS, 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 HRA, 3 K, 3BB
Teahen (Canada) 1 Gm, 4 AB, 1 H, a double, 1 K
Olivo (D.R.) 2 Gm , 6 AB, 3 H, 3 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI
Guillen (D.R.) 2 Gm, 1 R, 0 for 7
Aviles (P.R.) 1 Gm, 1 for 5, R
Lindsay and Soria have not yet pitched
