Royals Radio Network

So who has noticed that the Royals on Radio as it used to mainly be called now is the Royals Radio Network? I thought I'd investigate and found out from Fred White:
We haven’t changed our name. We have always used both Royals Radio Network, our formal name and the less formal Royals on Radio. You may call us whichever you prefer….just keep listening
Ok thanks Fred. But it could just be me but does it not seem like in 2003 it was RoR and the it was eventually all RRN. I mean how often do you hear them say Royals on Radio? Not very often that's for sure, of course you still send out your Sonic Slam inning cards to:
Royals on Radio
P.O. Box 16660
Kansas City, MO 64133
So who knows what to belive? Here is what I think happened,
The Royals complained to the Royals so the Royals changed to the RRN.Prince Charles
Thanks Royals you made the better Royals change their name. Just because you were on the Radio over in England. Just please don't take the RRN to !!

Tidbits

I've found my best comes out when I do a Top O the Morning type post. So here you go.
----------------------------------------------------
Twins

No not Minnesota, as I'm sure most of you have heard John Buck's wife Brooke gave birth to there first child only they got two of them twin boys Cooper and Brody . Talk about getting the most bang for your buck. Also the new father was there allowing Tupman to get into his 1st game and get his 1st hit.(Maybe his last)
--------------------------------------------------
Soria

Signed a 3 year deal but most likely it was a 6 year deal as most of us I'm sure hope. If Soria remains the closer he could threaten Quiz's Royals saves record.
--------------------------------------------------
No Hit

Really sucks but you've got to give hat's off to Lester he just dominated. What else can you say other then let's take the next three.
-------------------------------------------------
Guillen
Now has 30 RBI's on May 20th who thinks he'll top Emil's team leading 62 of last year? It sure is great to not have a pathetic team. just another hat's of to Lester as Grudz and Guillen were both on fire entering the game
-------------------------------------------------
Finally
I heard on one of the Royals lists I'm on Charles Barkley commented last
night about Lester's no-hitter saying that since it was against the
Royals, it should count as only a "half" a no-hitter.
Isn't this the same guy who kissed an ass ? What makes NBA players think they know @#%*^!? about MLB ? Hey Charles take a look at MJ you guys can't compete in baseball.

2003 ?

Hey after finishing of a second sweep of the kittens a little faith/hope would be good even when it looks impossible. Be live!! Because if you finish 2003 with another 3 on the opposite way it's 2008 !!!
I look for the Royals to hopefully sweep Florida and inch back towards 1st place.

Surprise 1st Royals game of 2008 for me

The Surprise
The time was about 2 PM I planned to get done from school and do my next royals UNsider article , but things change quickly and i soon found myself on the way to the K. And this is the story of what happened.
----------------------------------
PARKING
Robert E Lee: "War is h***"

War is h*** and the Kauffman Stadium parking isn't to far behind. What was ounce awesome parking is now a 10 minute trek to the game. i'm cool with it as long as it is only when their doing construction but they can not keep it that way. What's more disturbing is the way they tell be people to park far away or park near. There was no system at all they need to be careful or they'll have a racial discremination case on thier hands.
------------------------------------
VIEDO BOARD

Big,huge, massive, awesome picture. Who cares, at first I loved it and then I liked it but the more i thought I like the old one better. Strange, but then again it's all about the baseball for me. I do like the stats being displayed all the time though. but were's the crown? I can not in my heart of hearts accept this viedo board until it is crowned the it will be awesome. But hey it is pretty cool.
-----------------------------------
MY PRIZE FOR THE RoRetc CONTEST WINNER

I think the prize i'll hand out will be a trip, FOR ME !!! Yes the lucky winner will have the chance to buy me dinner, then take me to a Royals game and buy me a ticket. Awesome prize huh? I was originally thinking a royals hat, and a gift card to Sonic or something. but after last night's game it has been my luck to set with people who know nOTHING of the Royals. SO I thought if I have that problem you must have that problem too. So wall-la I'll go to the game with you and we can talk Royals baseball.
-------------------------------------
GAME TIME
Ok time game time finally in the stadium just in time for 1st pitch I can't wait to see Gil pitch as last year I was always a game to early or a game to late, and here's how it went:

1st Inning Top : Gil looks sharp, struggles a bit, throws quite a few pitches but overall looks solid through 1

2nd Inning Bottom
Teahhen single and then our main man AG drives him in with a big blast.

2nd Inning Top: Gil gets'em 1, 2, 3 but throws like a gazillion pitches to Millar and Ramon almost hits a HR driving Guillen to the warning track.

2nd Inning Bottom: It is my experience watching games live that you get a better feel for how the game is going to turn out this inning and I wrote it down so no one could say second guesser to me was the one that killed KC... Guillen singles Ross Gloads grounds into fielders choice. Then up next is John Buck he cranks one stands in and the pitch by Trachsel Gload gets a monster jump on the pitch and is almost already at 2b and Buck hits one to deep LF it starts dropping the LF Scott is chasing there is no way he get's to it yet Silverio holds Gload on 2B till after it bounces of the wall and then there is no way Gload can score he ends up at 3B and Buck at 2B with a double. Right then I could feel if you don't score that's the game Callaspo 3 unassisted DeJesus 4-3 inning over. Why didn't Luis send Gload on a team that already struggles for runs. that guy need to be canned. I'm tired of seeing him do that for the last years.

3rd, 4th & 5th Innings: Gil struggles mightily throws a ton a ton of pitches give up a HR to Mora in the 3rd and then come the 5th Aubrey Huff hit a 3 run monster the that cleared the Royals bullpen. Meanwhile in the bottom of those innings Steve Trachsel is being Steve Trachsel. In following the game of MLB it seem if you are going to beat the Steve Trachsel pitchers you've got to beat them early. The Royals didn't and Steve stymied the Royals for the next 3 and a third inning.

Baltimore 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th : Please tack on 2 more runs for the O's thank you
management

Royal 6th Sonic Slam Inning: Gordon walks then Olivo grounds out 6-3 then Grudz walks then Guillen walks then up comes Gload and I'm screaming PH with Butler PH with Butler didn't happen and then Ross comes up. Can you say 4-6-3 twin killing or this time Royal killing.

Royal 7th, 8th : Both produce a run but also leave 3 on base.

Bottom of the 9th: In comes the O's closer George Sherrill. Leadoff hit by DaveyD then Trey remembers he's still got Bulter so in comes Billy B. He walks. Up comes AG, he wants badly to be the hero. He takes a massive hack and misses the fastball, he takes a massive hack and misses the 75 MPH change.

Then friends I must admit I failed, AG hit a foul that bounced back my way and I almost had that ball but some old man swooped down and took it (he had the better angle) Then AG struckout.

OK, CLASS MATH TIME: 1 out, tying run at the plate, 1 out, fast guy at 2nd, slow guy at 1B, what do you do? Oh and did I mention not only is Gathright on the bench available as a PR but Tony Pena Jr too? Whada' ya do? .......................

Answer: Nothing

You leave Butler at 1B so that Olivo can ground out 4-6-3. IMHO with either Joe or Tony at 1B, Brian Roberts has to rush his throw, Olivo beats out what was a very very close play at 1B and the Royals are still alive, but he didn't, so thanks for that one Trey, genius very genius .
--------------------------------------------------------------------
American Idol Winner Hopeful
David Cook sang "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during when else the 7th inning stretch and said: for it's root, root, root, for the ...( fans say Royals) Cook says home team a shade of embarrassment shines across his face he finishes an says let's rally.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Yasuhiko Yabuta
His line may look alright but to me he doesn't look confident he struggles even when he doesn't (make any sense?) i think sometime in AAA would do him good
------------------------------------------------------------------
Jose Guillen
Proverbs 6:9 AMP
"How long will you sleep, O sluggard ?"

I'm a mid western boy as I'm sure quite a lot of Royals faithful are, I bet most of us our father's when out in the yard playing ball taught us to hustle.
"As soon as you hit the ball you better be running"
I've had the debate about Guillen (the he's only hitting .190 debate) before with several people and have decided to try and avoid it. But who cares about running anyway ? His bat may not be hot right now but that is no excuse for his lack of hustle. If he is hustling it's the Royals he' hustling. Straight to the bank $36,000,000.00 cha-ching, cha-ching.
Seriously come on Jose you crybaby.
--------------------------------------------
I could go into more detail but will leave you with 6 last random thoughts,
  1. Feels good to finally make it to the k this year
  2. Bought a media guide
  3. The people behind me spilt soda on my hats
  4. Very few O's fans the fewest amount of opposing fans I've ever seen at the K
  5. Ketchup won the race by 5 bun lengths
  6. The very last rant for today, why is everything now sponsored ? It is so annoying the Silverstein eye centers broadcast booth. Please. Pretty soon it will be HyVee Stadium home of the Panera bagels. Heck even the urinals were sponsored (maybe not but just you wait) I think mine said Welcome back to the Boulevard Beer official urinal or something like that.
-----
Have a good day and GO Bagels I mean Royals sorry.

Blueberry plants/Deadliest Catch + much much more

Blueberry Plants and Deadliest Catch
Yeah that sums up my day today so I know what you're thinking what does this have to do with the Royals ? Answer is absolutely nothing at all except, while planting the blueberry plant's I thought of a new series that will give this blog some class. See right now we're in the slums of Royal's blogs while everyone else is in or near the high class area near Royals Review estates.
So look for that new series hopefully coming your way tomorrow.
Well yeah that explains the blueberry part but what about the Deadliest catch ?
Well not much other then it's a greattt show on Discovery a must watch also while on that subject anyone reading this wouldn't have a cool $2,000,000.00 lying around the house collecting dust would you ? Because if you did you could give it to me so I could buy this !
Neato huh ?
--------------------------------------------------------
+ Royals Notes
See we aren't all about me. So Kc has lost there last two to Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of California of United States of North America of the Western Hemisphere of the Galaxy etc.
So plain old Kc has looked really bad against LAACUSNAWHG so it's a good thing we won't have to see them again after tomorrow.
{ Interlude}
(Optimist pops up out of ground)
Optimist: Unless we see them in the playoffs !
Ray W: Who are YOU ??
Optimist: I'm the eternal opti.....
(Ray W slams him back to earth like "whack a mole"*)
{End of Interlude}
Sorry about that don't worry he's gone now we're were we ???
I forgot
Anyway is Bannister's 2007 a fluke who knows yet, but Teahen's 2006 sure looks like it was.
Where would we be if a Royals team had 1 player with 30 HR's in a season ? or a player with 75+ RBI or a player that could get 170-200 hit's ?? Yes my friend that is the stuff dreams are made of.

* disclaimer "whack a mole" is considered offensive by animal's rights groups like PETA so please don't whack a mole it's just plain wrong and more offensive then when the Royals bat.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
+ Comments Please
Has anyone checked out Sweet Lou on the bottom of this here blog ?
Does anyone read this blog ? Should I post a recap of every game or is there a enough out there?
I want some comment's even if your comment is: "Hey stupid"

Meet Steve Stewart

Meet Steve Stewart
An Interview with Steve Stewart

Below is an interview done with the newest Royals on Radio broadcaster SS

At first I was critical of him but he's seems to have gotten settled in and has been doing real good. So without anymore rambling on my part here it is :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off how's Kansas City be treating you ?
It's been treating me great. I'm still learning my way around, but it doesn't appear to be too difficult to find your way. The people with the Royals organization and the fans have welcomed me, helped me get oriented. I'm impressed by the passion the fans have for Royals baseball, considering there have been some lean times the past several years. The ballpark is beautiful, even with the construction going on. I'm anxious to see it next season when it's finished.

KC is small enough that it's pretty easy to get around, but big enough that there's a lot to do.

Best Game you've seen ?

Just got to Cleveland....best game I've ever seen....wow what a good question...I have to think about that....there are a lot of ways to look at that...most memorable? best game I ever broadcast? most memorable I've ever broadcast....hmmmm

I'll be wishy-washy and give you a few answers. Most memorable game for me, my first big league broadcast (Orioles and Phillies in June of 2000)....I remember looking out and seeing 48 thousand people packing Camden Yards...and I was nervous just reading the lineups before the game. That was after four years in the minors and four years as a college baseball announcer in the SEC.

Most memorable moment...I was fortunate enough to call what turned out to be Cal Ripken's last home run. It was against the Yankees in 2001...the season had been pushed back a week in September and October because of 9/11. He hit it with camera flashes going off every time he saw a pitch...It was electric...

I haven't been fortunate enough to broadcast a lot of "meaningful" late-season Major League games. Neither the Orioles nor the Reds have been in the post season in several years. In 2002, I was filling in on Cardinals games, and I was broadcasting with Mike Shannon the night the Cardinals clinched the National League Central division title. That was the year Darryl Kile had died, so the players brought his jersey out on a hanger and paraded it around the field as they celebrated. I was also at the old Busch, broadcasting for the Reds, when Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 500th home run. Marty Brennaman made a great call on it.

Best game might have been when I was a kid, Game 6 of the 1975 World Series...but I don't know if I remember it specifically from when I was watching it...or if I've just seen it replayed so many times. Of course, Reds fans would remind everyone that they actually won the World Title the next night...even though Game 6 was the Red Sox night. I was at Fenway in 2005 when they dedicated the "Fisk Pole," down the left field line. Of course there's the Pesky Pole in right. Fisk told me that night, speaking of the Sox, "we won that series, 3 games to 4!"

One of most memorable moments I remember as a fan was George Brett tearing out of the dugout the day of the infamous "pine tar" game at Yankee Stadium

Nicest Player you've met ?
I've met a lot of nice players...guys like Mike Sweeney, Sean Casey, Aaron Harang and Gary Matthews Jr. come immediately to mind. Gary's the only player I remember walking up to me in the dugout before a game, having no idea who I was, and sticking out his hand and introducing himself. But I will say, by and large, the vast majority of ballplayers are nice guys.

Better team Reds or Royals ? and why
Better team, Reds or Royals? Hmmm...interesting...if you mean which is a better team right now...I'll put on my blue-colored glasses and say the Royals. Better bullpen, better defensively. The Reds obviously have more power, and they play in a hitters ballpark...but I'll take pitching and defense. A lot of parellels between the franchises right now...small-market, small-revenue (relatively) teams trying to build. The Royals are younger top-to-bottom than the Reds at the moment...but both are trying to build through the farm system.

The Reds are better than the record they've started with, and I think the Royals are too. I will say, the Royals are in a tougher division, so it's possible the Reds could finish with a better record....I root for both...but, obviously, the Royals are the team I follow the closest and when you travel with a team and get to know the guys, you naturally pull for guys you see working so hard every day. Reds have found a couple of very good young starters in Johnny Cueto and Edinson Volquez. But with Meche, Bannister, Greinke and Hochever, among others, I'm bullish on the rotation the next few years. Soria is a treat to watch too.

So when the Royals signed you were you a free agent ?

When the Royals contacted me I wasn't technically a free agent. I was under contract to the Reds. I was doing television work for them on FSN Ohio and I was head of their Speakers Bureau, both of which I was enjoyed. I had previously done radio play-by-play for them, but when the team was sold, the new owner decided he wanted an ex-ballplayer in the booth (Jeff Brantley), plus Thom Brennaman came home to Cincinnati to work with his dad as well. In the end it worked out well for everybody.. The Royals opportunity was good for me for several reasons personally and professionally. The Reds were very supportive in letting me pursue what I wanted to do, and I'm grateful for their strong recommendation.

Why'd you choose KC ?

Really KC chose me before I chose them. They called me in November and asked if I was interested in joining the broadcast team here. After I interviewed and accepted the job, I was very happy to come to a great city that was closer to my hometown (St. Louis). I feel like I've gotten here at a really good time. Dayton Moore and the baseball people have a plan, and they're executing it very well. This is a young team with some very talented pieces...and this front office, I'm convinced, will continue to upgrade the organization top-to-bottom...farm system to Major League club. And Kevin Uhlich and the business people are doing a great job renovating Kauffman Stadium, but keeping it's basic beauty, and working hard to make the fan experience as good as it can possibly be.

Who are your favorite broadcasters ?
My favorite baseball announcer ever was Jack Buck, who I grew up listening to. He had it all...voice, knowledge, experience, sense of humor. My favorite football announcer growing up was Pat Summeral. I'm still awed that a guy with the athletic ability he had to play in the NFL, also had the talent he had to be the top TV football play-by-play guy ever. When I hear his voice on occasion now, it takes me back to my childhood. Bob Costas has always been a favorite too. He came to St. Louis right out of Syracuse University when I was a kid, and his talent blew me away then, just as it does now.

As a boy you're favorite team was ? ( Favorite Player ?)
And, yes, sorry, the Cardinals were my boyhood team. But they haven't been my team in a long time. I got very tired of seeing them clobber the Reds all the time and win the division year after year, so the affection I have for the franchise has to do with boyhood memories from the 1970s, when the Cardinals were not very good (and the Royals were baseball's model organization.) By the time the Cardinals got good and won the division and went to the World Series in 1982 I had already moved away to Dallas to go to college...and since that time, I've, at various times, cheered for the Braves (used to broadcast one of their minor league teams), the Orioles (my first Major League opportunity) and the Reds, before coming to KC.

Favorite player as a kid was probably Lou Brock. I liked Keith Hernandez too (even better when he was a guest on Seinfeld. He's a TV analyst for the Mets, and I interviewed him a couple of years ago, and all we talked about was his Seinfeld appearance lol) I wish we'd have had interleague play when I was a kid so I could have seen guys like George Brett and Reggie Jackson in person.
How'd you get into broadcasting ?
I got into broadcasting my freshman year at SMU in Dallas. I was lucky enough to start broadcastig SMU football games about a week after arriving my freshman year. Eric Dickerson and Craig James were the Pony Express backfield. Did football and basketball games in college...then was an indoor soccer announcer for the Dallas Sidekicks, before getting into baseball, broadcasting Seattle's Triple-A team in Calgary, Canada, my first baseball job, in 1987.

Have you seen the Denny Matthews talking bobble head ?
I have not seen the talking Denny bobblehead, however seeing and hearing the real thing has been a treat for me. He's among the best at what he does, which is why the Ford Frick Award he received at the Hall of Fame last summer was well-deserved. I need one of those bobbleheads, though.

You sound so much better without the laryngitis how stressful was that for you while you were trying to make a good impression on the fan base?
Laryngitis is no fun for a broadcaster. I wasn't too worried, just did all I could to get over it as quickly as possible. But it's a tough ailment for a broadaster..."the broadcaster's hamstring" as Bob Davis calls it. My bosses were very understanding.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A big thank you to Steve for taking the time to do this interview and Denny if your reading this on your blackberry YOU ROCK and so does all the RoR team (Robert, Don Free, SS, etc) even ex-RoR Ryan Lefebrve. keep up the great work.

How to end one's season part 1

Great idea's 2.0
#1 when on the DL and attempting a comeback punch your hotel room door it's fun, painful, and damaging to your health. A very smart idea to let out anger and frustration. So there I was in Applebee's after church and across the bottom of the screen: Royals pitcher Bale out indefinatly after punching door.( Those sound dog remotes at Applebees are awesome by the way) Shades of Neal Musser must be a universal left hander thing as right handers (like myself) are much smarter (much) (Unless your a lefty and reading my blog in that case your bucking the trend way to go). Bale of all people a veteran it was understandable for Musser but Bale ! Hey the Royals won 2-0 let's not dwell on the stupid people of this world, we all make mistakes but must of are's don't make the TV. Soria is awesome. Great to see Gil Meche pitch well.
But what was Bale thinking !!
I still can't get over that he should have just called up some friends and vented*.

disclaimer
* Venting as in talking not as in the venting beer commercial unless their is a designated driver.

Interview with The Tao of In Dayton We Trust

Below is an interview done with The Tao of IDWT as he takes his hiatus he'll break mine right now
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why are you a Royals fan ?

I grew up in Kansas City, so the Royals are my team. It wasn't always like that -- before RSTN (and now FSN KC, I guess) -- I watched lots of Braves games on TBS, but when that channel got removed from our basic cable provider, I started paying more attention to the hometown guys. It hasn't always been easy, but I'm convinced my loyalty to the Royals will pay off sooner than later. Then again, I'm sure Rany's been telling himself that for 15 years, and Neyer pretty much jumped off the wagon years ago. Whatever. Go Royals.

Why remain a Royals fan ?

It's not really a choice -- more like a state of being. When you're out in the greater world -- New York, for instance -- you tend to grow fonder of old familiars, things you grew up with, concepts instilled in youth, that sort of thing. I don't cling to the Royals, necessarily, but I rally around them as a way of affirming my identity as a Midwesterner. Also, the Royals are fun to watch. Lots of young talent, emergent stars, etc., and they're on the right path.

In Dayton We Trust will Dayton lead KC to the playoffs ?

Definitely. If not he, then who? That's what I say anyway.

Best blogs/boards besides your own ?

There're a lot of fantastic Royals blogs that are active, probably more per Royals fan than any other team (Boston has about 80 Red Sox blogs, but their fans outnumber us by about 100 to 1... I pulled those numbers out of my ass, but you get the idea). Just a very short list of great blogs: the big three -- Posnanski, Mellinger and Rany , -- Royals Review, Royals Authority, Royal Reflections, Royales with Cheese and The Royal Treatment (who runs the Royals Nation message board, I believe, which is also good stuff).

Are you a Chiefs fan ?

Yeah, grudgingly. I mean, I love the Chiefs, of course, but they've caused me so much heartache and -- let's be honest -- full-blown anger that I sort of have a love-hate relationship with them. I will say this: they had quite the draft, in my opinion. I like all their Day 1 picks, especially the two first-rounders (they got exactly who they wanted). They won't do anything next year, but wait till 2009-10.

Favorite Player ? (gotta ask)

Pitcher: Brian Bannister. Batter: Billy Butler.

Do you listen to very many games on radio or mainly TV ?

TV. I don't think I have a radio in the house.

Name the first thought that comes to mind:

David Glass ?

Fine.

Ross Gload ?

Professional.

Tony Pena Jr.?

Why?

Royals Review ?

Brilliant.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that concludes are interview with The Tao of In Dayton We Trust one of thee top 100.000th Royals blogs
(mine would be one of thee top 1,000,000,000th Royals blog (wish I had a dollar for each blog ahead of mine))
