Best Royals Blog
My personal pick would be IDWT I'd say that was my favorite one this year... But alas surly Royals Review would win ? Right ? They were favored in "ALL" the tabloids, but I wanted this to be a democratic dictatorship so the people's vote counts for 50percent, and in a shocker Rany on The Royals takes home the prize. Not sure what else to say...
Score out of 100
Rany 60, RR 30, IDWT 10
Best Royals Blog 2008: Rany on the Royals
Best New Royals Blog
So out of the 4 finalists one would think it would be a close one between JTACT and RS but it became a no contest the winner of the Best new Royals Blog goes to:
In the end Jeff was able to create the best new Royals blog it all started with that 1st post January 17th and continued to build momentum with the AL Central preview, the hiring of a second writer and it just keeps on chugging. And I'd look for RS to compete for the Best Royals Blog in 2009.
RS 90 JTACT 7 RoR 3
Best New Royals Blog 2008: Royally Speaking
Man this is a tough one that I must make myself,
They are both so good but in the end,
Shakespeare's 50.0001, Pizza Kwik 49.9999
Best Pizza 2008: Shakespeare's
(Next year you'll be able to nominate your fav.)
Best Royals Relief Pitcher
A close one but in the end I think the winner is the one who seemed to be more then just a good pitcher a relief pitcher should have flair, have funk, have....... a persona.
And it came down to RamRam and Mahay and let's face the cold hard facts,
Mahay is still on the team Ramon is not, but..........
Can't go against a guy who's nickname was RamRam,
RR 57 RM 43
Best Royals Relief Pitcher 2008: Ramon Ramirez
I'll remember this guy for no other reason Royals Player
Sorry to all those who voted. But Matt Tupman can't win. I mean there is only one guy qualified to win so I'm going a Fidel Castro and picking the winner, (you may be able to decide the outcome of everything else, but this isn't the people's choice awards honey)
Tupman 65 Fulchino 20 Musser 15
IRTGFNORRP 2008: Jeff Fulchino
Best Royals Board
I thought RN or RB would surly win but nope there was a write in and everything in this category and the winner is:
There short sweet and to the point,
R.com 30 RN 25 RB 25 Write in 20
Best Royals Board 2008: Royals.com Board
Best Royals Sportswriter
No contest Sam Mellinger is your best Royals Sportswriter (wonder if Ball Star helped any ?)
SM 98 Bob Dutton 2
Best Royals Sportswriter 2008: Sam Mellinger
Best Royals Prospect Blog
Well Royals Prospects disappeared so it's down to the Pipeline and the Tower and in a close one the winner by split decision by a score of 52-48,
The Royal Tower
Where Royal dreams come true (hopefully)!
Let's hope so,
Best Royals Prospect Blog 2008: The Royal Tower
OK my favorite from the finalists would be Chipolte because it's so different and could Sonic even be considered a restaurant ?
But in the End "America's drive in" drives in the win and here's to a great 2009 Sonic Slam inning (hopefully) and your fav blogger raking in $25K.
So as not to anger the Sonic Slam Inning people,
Sonic 55 Chipolte 40 Culver's 5
Best Restaurant 2008: Sonic
Overall Best Royals site
The finalists were Royals Review, Royals Authority, IDWT, Rany
So there were the nominees and let's face it an imposing group
The votes were cast the ballots read and in the end it came down to two and even though this site didn't live up to it's voting potential, (it would be like if McCain lost Texas or Obama California)
The winner of the 2008 Ray W Awards Overall best Royals site:
By the score of RR 52 RA 33 Rany 14 IDWT 1
A few more winners for you:
Special Achievement Award 2008: Joe Posnanski
Best Royals on Radio Affilate 2008: Versailles 95.1 (Missouri)
Also would like to acknowledge:
The Pipeline, Baseball and Other Things and Royals Authority
You there should be proud you did very well but the fans just didn't vote for. In 2009 maybe you should step up campaigning eh ? But a great from the lot of ya.
And that concludes the Ray W Awards 2008 I've thoroughly enjoyed blogging the Royals this past year and like all the blogs and persons above look forward to the 2009 Royals season.
Thank you for reading this award show and look forward to the 2009 one. But until then I'll keep posting and go Royals !!!!!

See I think they've already had enough this year (CC, Tex).
But you being the generous old dude you are I think the best gift for the NYY fan this year, since you can't just skip them, is 100 percent genuine reindeer pee.
See unlike coal it won't EVER turn to diamonds and you can't heat with it !!!
That should teach them to bypass you (Santa) for there Christmas gifts, just think what $300 million could do for the needy,
Just my two cents Santa and watch out when you go through Arkansas (I've heard they're a bit nutty when it comes to deer hunting).
The other poor(er) 29 MLB teams and any one who hates the Yankees
PS. It's ok to hate the Yankees Santa we all do.

They called him the "retro jock" in the article but I'd call him down to earth a man's man, someone the fans can connect with and a bit stupid.
As Davies said:
“I work as a contractor,” he says. “A little of everything. I pour concrete, dig ditches, lay pipe, get on the machines, pick up garbage. Whatever they need me to do.”A noble profession but not the smartest. I know several people with simaler jobs and let's just say injuries happen. That's just the way it is when your around heavy equipment and machines.
As Sam said in the article:
He’s working a construction job to stay off the couch, keep active and make a little extra money — although whatever he’s making is a significant pay cut from the $427,000 he made with the Royals last year.Ok there's my point the guy is making $427K he's in line to make the Royals rotation and the $$$ will only go up. It's great that he's working with his dad but if he wants to stay off the couch why not go to the gym, volunteer, work at a library, work at McDonald's ? You know something a bit safer ?
Maybe Dayton Moore has something to say about it :
“I think it’s smart,”Royals general manager Dayton Moore said of Davies’offseason work.
“Keeps him in a routine. I know he’s very intelligent about how he goes about it, and he doesn’t compromise any of his preparation for the baseball season.”What ? Am I the only one worried here ?
The article ends with:
Let me just add one last thing:
There are times when Davies doesn’t like the work. It’s hard. Running a jackhammer isn’t fun for anybody.
But he likes the challenge, likes the feeling after a hard day’s work and the sense of accomplishment that comes with seeing a project from beginning to end.
But he likes the challenge, likes the feeling after a hard day’s work and the sense of accomplishment that comes with seeing a project from beginning to end. He likes to gamble .
Man just please be careful but even then sometimes that's not enough. Accidents happen all the time but why increase the probability ?
My dad works on the railroad and has busted his thumb open a couple times nothing that wouldn't heal in time but he's not a pitcher he doesn't need his thumb for grip on the ball.
Kyle , if your reading this maybe Brian Bannister needs some help in the photography studio ..........

Think we should resign him ?
I mean lot's of people learned to box in jail maybe he'll learn to pitch......
The Braves and Dodgers are duking it out for Furcal,
So that begs the question should the Royals bother trying to sign Orlando Cabrera ? Or maybe yet trade Greinke to the Braves in an Escobar package deal as speculation goes ? Personally I'm happy with Callaspo but if cheap enough Cabrera would be worth a shot but the A's and the loser of the above battle should drive up the price. And I really don't want to trade Greinke unless we need to.
Anyone see the Royals resigned Bale ? Wonder how much it cost. I can't grade this signing at all until I see the price tag.
But Bale has been injured both years he's been a Royal so you do the math.
I'd rather have Musser personally.
But it did get some good responses on MLBTR:
awww, nobody cares lolFunny stuff
Is he related to Batman? If so, that would make this signing more interesting.
come on now dont be like that ... Its been a pretty slow day today. this signing is important to KC Fans.
I hope we do something but not for the sake of doing something.
It's just that my winter post's keep declining and the temperate outside is like 11 degrees.
But don't you fear I'm writing down all my contacts in my 2009 Royals Planner and some real good stuff coming in 2009.
Monday, December 15, 2008
- First off Royals Nation has some openings if anyone wants to join there fantasy baseball league it's free, just go here to sign up.
- Has anyone heard from the promising new Royals Blog "Royals Prospects" I can't find it anywhere and Keith hasn't responded to my emails so it was good while it lasted
- MLBTR reports the A's have now taken the lead in the Rafael Furcal sweepstakes. (Can the Royals bolt back to the front ?)
- What else is there to talk about in these cold winter months ? Maybe another boxing match for Jose Canseco can come along soon huh ?
- You hear the newest news ? Apparently the Yankees are asking congress for a bailout so they can sign Tex.
- Who do you like as non-tenderie possibilities for the Royals ? James ? Taveras ? I think we should sign a couple if cheap enough. But why wasn't Gobble non-Tendered I'd love to have Nelson over Peralta.
- Finally what would be a link post without a link to Zelda ? (Oh great now it should read links not link) (Sorry for wasting your time but I wanted no needed to post something. And remember the Quality vs Plethora of Posts rule both of which I lack) (lol you'd better)

So the Royals seemingly have acquired Kyle Farnsworth unlike most I like this signing granted it's 2 years $9.25mm but I trust Dayton on relivers he has a very good record with the RP's septYabuta and I believe that was just to show that the Royals might in the future go with more Japanese players. Anyway I've always liked Kyle because he was a guy the Royals could hit, but I really do think he'll be a great setup guy when Mac is finished with him. If not it's not that much worse then the Tomko signing and it's Kyle Farnsworth someone will be willing to trade for him.
Love the move to sign Waechter for only $670K I always thought he was overrated with Tampa and when he missed 07' I thought his career was over. But he was really solid out of the pen last year for the Fish he's the one guy from the Marlins/Royals series I remembered as a guy to watch for he was pretty good. Also another reason to dig Doug if he were to drop the "e" from his last name we'd both have the same last name. My mother thinks it could be the original German spelling of Wachter. So yeah I've followed his career some.
Some might start by saying he was horrible with the Sox after the trade but I think he was just doing his job as a double agent. He got us Orlando and stank up the Sox !!! And the whole time Dayton and Horacio knew the plan the whole time. Dayton you dog.
I'd like to say keep an eye on former Brave Chuck James who was NT'd earlier there is the obvious Brave's connection and James is only 27 and had 2 good seasons before a big blowout last season. I'd love to get Chuck for a nice cheap contract.
I hope we sign him doubtful but I sure hope it happens. If the devil were to ask Dayton a strong Christian if he would speculate on a potential signing/move or go to hell. I'm not positive what his answer would be. :) Just kidding GMDM
But we do have cash considerations coming or way for the Lugo trade from Seattle it can't be much but maybe just maybe Seattle sent a little more to make sure Furcal stays out of division rival Oakland
So who or will the Royals non-tender ? I can't wait to find out but until then just remember all the good times we've shared with Jason Smith over the years he'll be sadly missed (not really).
More on Smith and MLB news
Speaking of Smith is it just me or has the free agent market been really bad ?
I mean come'on if Manny doesn't get more interest he'll retire !!!
And how bout the New York Ca$$$h (formerly the Yankees but then they started only embodying the bad quality's of America you know the rude arrogant money buys happiness kind. Also speaking of the evil empire I'm reading "The Zen of Zim" by Don Zimmer a great book for only a $1 I got it a dollar General I recommend it if you hate the Yankees and if you don't hate the Yanks you're not a Royals fan so stop reading my blog creep).
Spending the dough like always how's there rotation looking ?
Sabathia, Burnett, Lowe ?.
Congrats your going to be the 2009 version of the 2008 Tigers.
Speaking of Detroit it ain't looking to good for the Big 3.
And speaking of cash and cars, how come we haven't heard anything of our good buddy's Odalis Perez and Emil Brown ? (Somewhere Royales with Cheese is smiling down on us)
I think maybe I should go and try and make the California Democrat the hometown paper I mean what good is being the best Royals blog in California, Mo if no one knows right ?
I mean I'm right ? Right ?
And speaking of the best why not vote on the Ray W awards right now ?
If you don't I can't guarantee that Sidney Ponson or Runelvys Hernandez won't eat you !

Also the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting :
The Kansas City Royals are taking a run at former White Sox shortstop Orlando Cabrera, who also has attracted interest from the Twins
EDIT 5:52 PM Royals close to deal with Horacio Ramirez (we bring Jairo back we bring HoRam back)
I really under estimated the creepiness of this, but he just won't go away yes Jairo must be getting jet lag by now.
Also ESPN is reporting:
The Royals, Blue Jays, A's and Dodgers remain in the mix for free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal. Kansas City's front office has asked ownership for more money
So also linked to us is Milton Bradley, Farnsworth, Springer, Lyon
Orioles are looking for another catcher to mentor Matt Wieters would they be willing to acquire John Buck ? That would give us a catching tandem of Olivo/Pena and I like that better then Olivo/Buck.
Also suppose we sign Furcal, Farnsworth, and Bradley:
CF Coco Crisp
SS Rafael Furcal
RF Milton Bradley
1B Mike Jacobs
LF Jose Guillien
2B Mike Aviles
3B Alex Gordon
DH Billy Butler
C Miguel Olivo
That looks great plus throw in a trade of DeJesus and Teahen for some pitching and we could make a great run at the AL Central maybe. (Remember Detroit).
Also continuing on CC Sabathia can pull an Igawa or Sidney Ponson for all I care he used to be cool. Can you blame him for his money grabbing ways ?
If I get anymore good rumors I'll update this thread but until then welcome back Jairo Cuevas we missed you !!!
PS. I'm sure you're an upgrade over Fulchino.
Monday, December 8, 2008
I hope to see a new signing soon maybe Farnsworth ? Furcal ? Dunn ? Sheets ? Sabathia ?

Of course he used to write about the Royals on his other blog Inconsiderate Prick but now you'll find all the Royals content at RC.
1. Tell us a little about yourself and how you became a Royals fan?
My dad grew up in Kansas City, so I've pretty much always been a Royals and Chiefs fan. The first year that I was old enough to stay up and watch all the World Series games was 1987, which is obviously a bad break for me as a sports fan in terms of, you know, seeing your team win championships. I was lucky enough to get to see Bo quite a bit, which as a kid was pretty amazing.
About a month ago, my dad and I were marveling at having seen Bo throw the ball up towards the roof of the Metrodome while warming up between innings and actually hitting the dome numerous times, so I've seen his feats of superhuman strength in person and they're ingrained in my sports fan psyche. Much like every Royals fan, I had Bo Jackson cards, posters, and T-shirts. I still have a Bo shirt. Unfortunately--with the exception of one-and-a-half seasons (the last half of the 1990 season and the 1991 season)--I grew up out of market and largely had to follow along in the box scores and single paragraph game recaps printed up in a small market daily paper. In the interest of full disclosure, I did adopt a second team to follow in addition to my Royals fandom--the Braves--but as the core of that team has almost fully disintegrated my fandom has waned.
One more guilty admission is that from about 1995 until 1999 I had pretensiously sworn off following sports for reasons that are not entirely clear to me anymore but probably had to do with some ridiculous self-serious notion I had as a teenager after the strike. Luckily for me (and quite the opposite for my girlfriend of nearly ten years), fantasy baseball came along and sucked me back in. Now I'm an MLB Extra Innings and MLB.tv subscriber who watches (conservative estimate to follow) at least 60 Royals games a year.
2. Why should people go to your blog Royalscentricity?
Well, they probably shouldn't. It's not very good.
Or maybe it's all right...
If they do decide to go there (despite my half-warning), they'll get a pretty level-headed and occasionally funny take from a sincere but cautious fan. I try to temper my enthusiasm and optimism while not erring quite so far into the column of eternal pessimism. Admittedly that can be a daunting task, since we Royals fans have put up with a lot of (using restraint here) crappy teams since the strike. Hell, there are a fair amount of Royals fans out there that don't even remember the strike. For those of us who do, this has been a trying decade and a half. For those of us who don't, there's not even the distant memory of a successful team.
I should mention that despite the relative lack of content at Royalscentricity, I had been blogging for the past year or so at Inconsiderate Prick (an apt description of me in my regular life but oddly not my existence as a Royals fan) and many of those entries were Royals related, but I didn't really think that I had the energy to maintain two separate blogs. I changed my mind part way through last season but decided I should wait until the offseason to launch Royalscentricity--I really wanted to call the blog The Royal We, but the domain name was taken in every way imaginable. Now, I've split my interests into two separate blogs and my readership is up astronomically--astronomically being appropriate only when taking into consideration the nominal interest I was drawing at my foolishly all-encompassing run at Inconsiderate Prick.
3. Most you've paid for a Royals hat?
Straight up? $25 or so.
I did embark on a whirlwind road trip from Minneapolis to Denver (to see Ween and Tenacious D at Red Rocks) to Kansas City, where we went to see the Royals at The K. At The K, we got KC visors with admittance. The Royals lost, of course, and the next day, we found out that our friend had been driving much of the previous day with the oil light begging us for attention only to be rudely ignored. By the time we acted to try to remedy the situation, it was too late, and we were stranded at the Hy-Vee in Liberty carless. Luckily, I ran into one of my uncles there (seriously), and he was able to help us out as much as we needed, and we were driven out to KCI to get a one-way rental car back to Minneapolis. This was the summer after our third year in college, so we were all under 25 and paid dearly for the rental. So if you add up the fact that I had to cope with the shame of having a friend who did not know that an oil light coming on is an issue that is meant to be addressed immediately and then heaped all the money I spent on that road trip on motels, alcohol, gas, food, alcohol, and rental cars on top of the shame and took into account the fact that going into the road trip I had $250 to my name, you could say I spent all of my lifesavings and every last ounce of masculine pride on a Royals visor.
I still have the visor.
4. Do you want fries with that ?
Finish the sentence and then go ahead and say some more if you like,
5. To start the MLB season in Japan ...........
is personally irritating to me because it means I have to stay up even later than I normally do because there is no way in hell I'm waking up that early.
6. David Glass is .............
the owner of the Royals.
Just kidding. Real answer? Hopefully done meddling with the decisions of the General Manager and suddenly forgot what frugality was which would then lead to the signing of Orlando Hudson, CC Sabathia, and Adam Dunn and a trade for Jake Peavy.
Rank them in terms of how many games you think each will play for the Royals in '09.
Gload, Butler, Jacobs, Shealy, Ka'aihue
This scares me. Honestly? Butler, Jacobs, Shealy, Gload, Ka'aihue. Butler will be in the lineup almost every day, but sadly most of that will be at DH. The one who should be DHing is Jacobs, but I worry--nay, know--that the Royals can't see that. I'd personally take Butler's defense to Jacobs' because I didn't see horrific defense at first when Butler was out there. Obviously the range isn't there, but I'm hard-pressed to think of him just blowing routine grounders.
As for Shealy, I'm not entirely sure the Royals won't try to move him (or Butler, which I am actually afraid of) but the market for him will not make the move easy. Shealy can hopefully right his inexplicably reversed LHP/RHP splits and prove to be an ideal platoon for Jacobs. Gload will play quite a bit, but mostly because of his positional flexibility and the fact that he plays respectable defense at first and is therefore an ideal late innings replacement in the event that the Royals someday find themselves with a lead to protect.
I could write for eons about Kila but will refrain. Needless to say, I don't think the Royals can see that the best way to see if Kila is ready to be a Major Leaguer is to actually make him a Major Leaguer. In the scenario we find ourselves in, Kila is a year away at best.I was holding out hope that Dayton Moore had something cooked up that made the Jacobs acquisition more palatable, but the more time goes by without much action on the trade front, the more I worry that there isn't anything. I'm wary of fully evaluating a trade like this by itself, as I want to believe that there is a master plan here, but I do not like that it further complicates the first base situation. That being said, Jacobs was unlucky last year with an absurdly low BABIP of .264 and a more realistic average in the .260s is what we should probably be expecting if they don't platoon split him.
Thanks again to Josh for taking the time to do this interview and be sure to check him out at his blog Royalscentricity.

Royals offer arb to Grudzielanek I've got to think that they must have a deal that he wouldn't accept it. They have a deal or Dayton has finally lost it. Still can Grudz be trusted ?
Remember that Olivo said Hell no to returning and then did, makes one wonder just what Mark said to Dayton.
Also so the Royals have an opening on the 40 man for the Rule V even if Grudz accepts there's always a big ole' Fulchino waiting to be cut.(Or a Neal Musser who Dayton suddenly decided to hate in 08)
And wa-la I've filled up my first post of December hopefully there will be many more this December.
Also former Royal David Cone is up for the MLB Hall OF FAME along with Jesse Orosco, Dan Plesac, and my personal favorite Mo Vaughn. GO MO !!!!
(Also if Cone makes the Hall I love him but his stats aren't the best so if he's in Jaime Moyer's a lock)

RHP Franquelis Osoria
27 years old
Was 4-3 last year with a hefty 6.08 ERA in 43 APP 60.2 IP 31 K 12 BB
And a career line of: 4-9 5.48 ERA 104 APP 136.1 IP 72 K 37 BB
He's spent parts of the last 4 years with the Dodgers and Pirates and has shown parts of greatness flip flopping good year, bad year and lucky for us 2009 should be a good year for Franquelis. My only hope is if he makes the team he could shorten the first name, please. But a great no risk signing.
SS Luis Hernandez
24 years old
Just about anytime you can get someone's opening day anything for a no risk milb contract it's 99.78 percent always a good deal.
Luis faded out as the O's everyday SS even though posting a
.241 AVG through 79 AB in 36 GM's he collected in total last year 9 R's 19 H's 3 RBI and 2 SB. So yeah that looks real good compared to TPJ. So I hope in ST that Luis will get a good shot at the backup role. But hey it's the Royals and who wants to bet me he'll get a fair chance if it comes down to him a the Gm's pet ? But like above a 24 year old nice little SS I love this move.

A former top Pirates prospect but alot of people are a former something and House is just another AAA catcher, just another Ken Huckaby if you will.
And if he makes the team over Brayan Pena ......................................
3B Corey Smith
26 years old
Has great power and limited speed in in 495 AB at AA Arkansas he hit .271 with an OBP of .321, 31 2Bs, 26 HR's and 80 RBI's plus 15 SB.
But he struggled in his 7 games at AAA Salt Lake. But he's got some great potential but so does/did Dallas McPherson. Still if he could stay at AA all year the Royals might have another Texas league MVP. And still another great signing.
Also signed are 24 year old 6' 6" lefty starter Carlos Sencion from AA Mississippi (Of course a another Braves connection) if you want to look yourself the stats are here
And 24 year old Mexican reliever Federico Castaneda a 6' 3" who in the AAA Mex league did alright and the Royals.com compared him to a less talented Joakim Soria
O and then there's the curse of the shuttlecocks that's why we're losing thanks for nothing Nelson-Atkins Museum besides who's ever been to the museum I sure haven't.

But mine should have been in the top 5 and Royals Nation should be tops with 95 percent.
So yeah whatever.
Should I interview The Tao again ?
Should I interview Sam Mellinger ?
Any other ideas ?
Hey my friends Jack from RN and Keith from TRT and know I've heard a rumor that Minda might be on, my question would be Greg Schaum why haven't you yet extend your invitation to California, MO's finest ???
Vacation note, while in Coco Beach, Florida at the local ice cream shop Tootie Frutie I bought a Royals hat for $7 it was the only Kc hat besides 6 Yankees hats so I had to rescue the little guy.
I'm working on a new header design for the site that hopefully will be up before Summer 2009.
Royals Nation's Karma points are gone

MCI is a little airport.
So enough about me and on to my thoughts on some other Royals news:
Royals add Arbuckle (Did I spell it right ?) to the front office. Love it but does lack of OBP spell Arbuckle in the future ?
Lumsden is off the 40 man and Mac never really did anything since the trade so at least we still have Cortes.
I'll post more later guys when I get back in the groove. And still no followers ????

But while I'm gone sign up as a "follower" of my blog or else I might not post when I come back.

Whatever happened to Moore's "major roster changes" plans ? Were they accidentally turned into confetti in the Obama victory party ?
We'll leave that thought and jump into some great Moore quotes from the article and remember words of Moore in green:
“As much as we’ve tried to improve our offense over the last couple of years*, I think we’ve done the best we can do at this point in time,”~~
*Gathright, Shealy, LaRue, Gload,Pena Jr, J. Smith, Guillen, Olivo
“I don’t know what else we’re going to be able to do this winter.”~~
The tight budget appears to rule out any major foray into the free-agent market.
“I don’t think so,” Moore admitted. “We’d have to do something (to make a major signing).”
So yeah you would have to do something !!! Guess what your the one who wasted $12M on Jose Guillen instead of waiting to use that money for a quality player.
Who'd you rather have ?
Jose Guillen or Ben Sheets ?
Jose Guillen or Adam Dunn ?
Jose Guillen or Jon Garland ?
Jose Guillen or Rafael Furcal ?
Jose Guillen or a Texas sheet cake ?
Now from that same article:
So I ask you why ? Why have a starter Olivo making $2.7m and backup Buck making $2.5m+ ?
The Royals’ projected $60 million budget already has $41.4 million committed to nine players. Club officials now expect Jacobs to cost $3 million or more after briefings this week from MLB officials on the anticipated state of the market.
Those same projections suggest it will cost at least $12 million to retain Zack Greinke, Mark Teahen, John Buck and John Bale. All four are eligible for arbitration, and all but Greinke already make at least $2.2 million.
Specially when you have Brayan Pena and backup catchers out there maybe Sal Fasano ?
Mark Teahen should be traded if you can get fair value in return, John Bale I think I'll pass.
And that only leaves Grienke. So Zack costs maybe half or $6m that leaves $6 and if you didn't have JG that's $18M but you do so as MLBTR states it: Royals May Be Done
Is it just me or useally when a team opens a new stadium or renovates their old one the payroll usually increases, but I guess the same rules don't apply for a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 23 years
Back to the article it says that, speculation points to the Royals as a possible landing place for former Phillies assistant general manager Mike Arbuckle.
I don't see it why if your Dayton would you want a guy breathing down your neck as you try and acquire a pletora of OBPless jocks ?
I’ve heard that (rumor),” Moore said, “but I haven’t spoken to Mike. I guess you could always create a position. Mike Arbuckle is a very talented guy. He did a tremendous job, obviously, in Philadelphia.”
You guessed it final point by Bob Dutton:
The Royals must still trim at least four players from their 40-man roster by Nov. 14. Even more cuts are needed by Nov. 20 if they want to protect newly eligible players from the Rule 5 draft — or create space to make a selection
I'd be worried over my spot on the 40 if my name was Braun, Duckworth, Fulchino, Gobble, Hudson, Lumsden, Musser, Newman, Peralta, Costa, Gathright, or Smith
I don’t think we’ve got a lot of protection issues,” Moore said. “A couple of guys at most. We’ve already added KK (Kila Ka’aihue). (Devon) Lowery was added. We’ll have meetings over the next couple of weeks and evaluate all of those guys.
“You’d also like to save room for a pick in the Rule 5, but we’re picking 11th.”
But Buck and Teahen should be fine
Finally I'm thinking of making a shirt to sell that states on the front:
2009 Royals They looked OBP in the eyes
And the back:
And still never made it to 1st........

And your chance to get to know him a little better.
1. First off tell us a little about yourself and how you became a Royals fan.
I am a 29 year old account manager for a sports marketing firm in mid-Missouri. I grew up in a suburb of Dallas, Texas and found my love of baseball through the Texas Rangers. We lived about 15 minutes from Arlington Stadium and then the Ballpark in Arlington so we went to 20-25 games a year. My high school years proved to be the best for me as a baseball fan as Juan Gonzalez, Dean Palmer and Will Clark led the Rangers into the post-season a few times in the late 90's. The late 90's also coincided with the premier of my favorite player, Mike Sweeney. I got a lot of my friends onto the Mike Sweeney band wagon and soon every time the Royals came into town we were there for the entire series.
It only seemed natural that after I moved to Missouri in November 2007 I would become a Royals fan. Unfortunately, I travel a lot during the summer and I only made it up to Kaufman Stadium once this past season but during that time I got my wife to claim the Royals as her team as well. I see a lot of promise with this team in the future, and that promise was substantiated by the investment that they have put into their drafts the past two years.
Now with the blog that I started I hope to make it to as many Burlington, Omaha and Northwest Arkansas games as I can to see the guys first hand that I have been writing about. The Royals farm system is what will allow this team to succeed or fail moving forward, so it's incredibly exciting to be able to track the progress of guys like Moustakas, Duffy and Hosmer as they move through the system.
2. So Kc's your team now even when the play Texas ?
Yes, I must admit though that should Michael Young ever slap a double against the wall against the Royals I'll be cheering for him. I equate Michael Young to Mike Sweeney, both are class acts.
3. And since you were a Rangers fan what's your take on the steroid issue ?
It certainly spoils the results of their playoff teams in '96, '98 and '99 seeing as though they had several players on those teams that were at one time suspected of using steroids. Pudge Rodriguez is a shadow of his former self size wise and we all saw the steep decline of Juan Gonzalez. I hate seeing what the inflated late 90's and early 2000 statistics did to the record books.
4. Your thoughts on the Jacobs trade ?
Whatever you write about the Jacobs trade, half the people will shake their head and agree while the other half will think you don't have a clue. I personally liked the trade, here's why.
1. You gave up a relief pitcher that put up solid numbers in 2008 but how much can you really trust middle relief pitchers? It seems like year in and year out someone will come away and knock your socks off unexpectedly and vice versa your previous bullpen stalwart will get figured out by the league and will get kicked around.
2. You have another power bat to put in your line-up. People are scared about Jacob's production going down because he is moving into Kaufman Stadium...have you seen how expansive the set up is at Dolphin Stadium?
3. Look at the alternatives; I don't see anything substantially better. I'll start with Ka'aihue, yes he put up great numbers in 2008, what does it hurt to see if he can follow it up with a solid 2009 season in Omaha as well? He'll only be 25 in March and is a year removed from hitting .246 in Wichita. He's certainly a great insurance policy if Jacobs breaks more wind with his bat than a newborn. I truly believe Shealy is a AAAA player and we all know what Gload is all about because we got to see a ton of him this past season.
4. He's a cheaper version of Adam Dunn, let's take him through his arbitration years and see what kind of numbers he can put up.
5. Your Thoughts on Johnny Giavotella ?
Giavotella is an on base machine, pure and simple. During his freshman – junior campaign with New Orleans he averaged an OBP of .468 and he only struck out a little over 10% of the time, that is Joe Mauer esque! It was obvious that the Royals thought his experience in the Sun Belt conference and the Summer Cape Cod League would transfer over well as he put up solid numbers for the Low A Burlington Bees. His OBP dropped some, but I would still be happy with a .350+ OBP every year, especially seeing as though it was his first experience in professional baseball. It will be interesting to see if the decent pop he had in college will transfer over and if he can increase his SB percentage.
I have a feeling that he will live in the shadow of Mike Moustakas as he makes his way up through the system but it's hard not to be excited about this infield combo as they more than likely go to Wilmington in 2009.
6. Your list of top 10 Royals prospects ?
1. Mike Moustakas
2. Eric Hosmer
3. Daniel Duffy
4. Kila Ka'aihue
5. Dan Cortes
6. Carlos Rosa
7. Michael Montgomery
8. Johnny Giavotella
9. Tim Melville
10. Jose Bonilla
I think the tough thing about making the Royals top 10 list is that only 3 of the guys on my list have played above high A ball, it certainly doesn't give us a lot of data to formulate an opinion. What we do have is potential, and there is a lot of it in the lower tiers of the Royals farm system.
7. Favorite Royals blog or board (besides own)?
There are definitely some great ones out there but I'll go with the first one I found when I moved to Missouri and that is Rany on the Royals. He puts a lot of thought into his posts and I generally agree with most of what he has to say except for a recent post concerning the Mike Jacobs deal where he thought Billy Butler would be traded. I just wish he posted more.
8. Most you've paid for a Royals hat?
I hate fitted hats so I only spent about $16 on a unstructured Royals cap that I'll wear until it falls apart or my wife makes me buy a new one.
9.If you had a hot dog at the K what's on it?
I'm a picky eater so I hate to say that my dog would only be lathered up with ketchup and mustard, pretty boring dog huh?
10. Could you steal a base off John Buck (who couldn't) ?
I have poor instincts so I'd probably get picked off first before I could even try it.
Thanks again to Keith of RP for taking the time to do this and once again you've got to check out his new blog, there's new stuff daily
Mainly for archiving purpose's it will be continually updated

1. What gave you they idea to start MLBTR and how did you turn it into the juggernaut that it's became ?
I started it as a hobby, as I have always been most interested in the hot stove side of baseball. I was fortunate to stumble upon a niche that needed to be filled - aggregating all the rumors worth reading. I didn't do much promotion; it just caught on.
2. Have you "ever" thought of charging a fee to access your site ?
Yes, I considered it at one point a few years ago. I decided it would be best for the business and for the readers if I stuck with ads rather than a subscription fee. Personally I think that many subscription sites would make more money giving away their content for free.
RoRetc EDIT: Thanks Tim for saving us cash strapped fans !!!
3. Do you think the Royals will land any top of the line free agents ?
I predicted they will sign Japanese starter Koji Uehara, but it's just a guess. I can see them being in the mix for a slugger like Adam Dunn as well.
4. What's your take on the Jacobs-Nunez deal i.e. if you were Dayton Moore would you have made that trade ?
I thought it was a bad move for an OBP-starved club with a couple of interesting 1B options already in-house. I definitely would not have made that trade. Nunez isn't anything amazing, but Jacobs is a bad fit for the Royals and most other teams.
5. Do you think the Royals will make anymore deals ?
It seems that they could shop David DeJesus around, given the weak market for center fielders. I imagine they'd be looking for a middle infielder or pitching.
Thanks Tim for taking time off to answer a few questions out of your busy day specially as the hot stove heats up.
Once again be sure to check out MLBTR as often as possible !
Note # 1
OR as Flanagan might have put it "Hell No returns"
Miguel "Hell no I'm not coming back" Olivo IS coming back at least that's what the Kc Star is reporting and it's a fair move I like Olivo but one would hope we could land true #1 guy but hey maybe it means Buck is gone soon.
Only they didn't add Brayan Pena to the 40 man roster even though the same article reports that "Shake" Yabuta and Matt Tupman both cleared waivers and were outrighted to AAA
Also Angel Shancez was lost to the Blue Jays I mean just "Jays" to a wavier claim. I liked him but injuries got to him and now he goes the way of the Blanco and Gotay.......
And note # 1 takes up #'s 2 and 3 also (see Yabuta/Tupman and Shancez above)
Note # 4 involves the latest from the mailbag of Dick Kagel
The usually stuff involved here but a nice quote from Jacobs "
Jacobs addressed the spacious-size issue by saying if you're a home-run hitter, you can hit 'em anywhere. So there you go who needs OBP, Mike is only looking to go yard !!!
Also some nice one's to answer:
Royals and I-Rod ?
Soria closer or starter ?
You know some of these make you wonder whether no one emails him questions anymore or can he just can't answer any of the tough ones ?
So if you've got a question about the Royals you can also send it to me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will answer them (even if it means not answering them)
Also Ryan Lefebrve if you are out there are you ever going to get back with me ????
EDIT before I even post this kcroyals.com said the Royals DID add Pena to the 40-man now if we could only take Pena off............

Check it out it's some great stuff from all across the AL Central I go under the pseudo name Ray (haha)

Also congrats to the Phillies
Looks like the latest out of Miami has the Royals still going after Mike Jacobs, only this time for Leo Nunez. So my guess is that Dayton has no faith in Ryan Shealy and thinks Kila is to young and inexperienced at the next level (and he could be right with both).
So it looks like with all the rumors the Royals should, when it's all said and done end up with Jacobs.
Leo Nunez was solid this year and it's sort of a shame to see him go (if this trade works out) but with his toothpick frame I just don't think he'll ever be able to pull of a full season injury free. So if it's Jacobs for Leo I think that's a good trade for us, simply because of that factor.
It would make you wonder who's the next guy who'll be replaced maybe Butler ? Teahen ?
And remember "The Source" said:
on Wednesday night that players have been agreed upon, and the deal could be consummated in the next few days.
Monday, October 27, 2008
It sure looks like it could be one busy offseason, and I can't wait for it to begin as soon as the World Series wraps up.
So with that said, surely I'm not the only one hoping the Rays are man-Hamel-ed tonight.
But alas all great things must come to an end in Philadelphia just like the 1980 Royals.
Kinda ironic is it not, that Kc's first WS was against the Phillies and now the Rays ?
One word, creepy
Well it's only 4 days till Halloween so that explains part of it and scarier yet, 8 days till the elections then what will we do for commercials and mail ?
But alas I really should breakdown the trade rumors, it's like my civic duty as a blogger, so here we go:
Jose Guillen For Luis Castillo
Hate this one glad it could never happen. (Right Dayton) I mean trading your best hitter pain in the --- he is for a punchless, injured 2B. If you need a 2B THAT bad bring back Grudz otherwise Callaspo should work or does his hit streak mean nothing ? Plus we all know we're linked to Furcal
Mark Teahen For Franklin Gutierrez, or Ben Francisco or Trevor Crowe
First off is it just me or wouldn't Kc have to throw in a milb player ? Or maybe I've just seen to much Teahen as for Gutierrez or Fransisco I like them both but they both alot, but they scream Mench (Who was DFA today) and Nix. And the minor league Crowe looks like he could be a solid guy but he's yet to prove anything at the Big league level.
But I keep getting the feeling when he's gone from Kc Teahen will become the next Wellemeyer
unkown injured minor leauge pitcher for Mike Jacobs.
The Miami Herald said the deal fell apart “because of a medical issue involving the minor-league pitcher."
And thus we have no Idea how to grade this possible trade other then he doesn't seem like any sort of an upgrade over Shealy/Ka'aihue except Jacobs did hit 32 HR's though............
RS has better break down head there to check it out.
All so here is my list of our top 20 prospects I'm not very good at this so bare with me:
1. Mike Moustakas 3B
2. Eric Hosmer 1B
3. Daniel Cortes RHP
4. Carlos Rosa RHP
5. Johnny Giovotella 2B
6. Kila Kaaihue DH/1B
7. Danny Duffy LHP
8. Derrick Robinson CF
9. Tim Melville RHP
10. Daniel Gutierrez RHP
11. Michael Montgomery LHP
12. Julio Pimentel RHP
13. Blake Woood RHP
14. Ed Cegarra RHP
15. Paulo Orlando LF/RF
16. Jeff Bianchi 2B
17. Jason Taylor 3B/LF
18. Kelvin Herrera RHP
19. Tyler Sample RHP
20. John Flanagan LHP
We will defiantly ask our next interviewee what he thinks off the prospects, because he is Victorious Secrets from the new hit blog Royals Prospects !
Look for that coming soon !!!

Buck must go
So Johnny said that him and Miguel Olivo could:
successfully co-exist as the Royals' catchers next season
And that is why he must go, I'm all for good guys off the field but on the field you've got to want it.
You've got to want to be in there everyday I wish I was quoting Buck more like: "Hey I'm the guy to be the everyday guy heading into 2009 I want to be back there every chance I can get"
But no we get:
"Miguel and I really got along really well, and together, if you look at our production and what we put out at the position, you can throw us up there with anybody in the league," Buck saidI don't care if it was my best friend was competing with me you've GOT TO WANT IT !!!
Be friends of the field but when you've got your jersey on PLAY YOUR FREAKIN GUTS OUT !!
It's all in the attitude and Buck has a great Royals attitude but we NEED guys with winning attitudes not Royals attitudes.
And I can't believe that when in the baseline guys don't run over the 2B and more railroading of the catcher isn't a bad thing but that's another rant for another day.
Congrats to MT
Congrats to Mt.Royal (aka. Antonio) a frequent guest interview here on RoRetc on his new job as the new blogger for Royally Speaking. The job was first made available to the public here
Royals Nation Finally Has

Originally a post to be about Jaime Moyer, now is about the newest Royals Pitcher Jairo Cuevas as the Royals claimed the former (guess) ...................
and cut ties with the Kipper,
yes Mr. Wells was released sad isn't it ?
Now more on Cuevas:
Cuevas is 24
The USA Today had this to say:
The 24-year-old, who was signed by the Braves while current Royals GM Dayton Moore worked for the team, throws in the low-90s and has a curve with potential.
So um who thanks the Royals will trade for Andruw Jones ??? You know Jones for Guillen ???
The USA Today also seemed to thank that:
He's likely to open 2009 in Double-A, but he could eventually surface in the majors as a reliever.
O yeah ?
Then how come "The Kagelster" had the truth :
August the 22 of 2008, Cuevas had season-ending surgery on his right shoulder.
"I think he's projected to return in late July or August," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. "Then we'd have to re-assess where he is and at what level he should compete."
So did we mention he's a righty ? Lives in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic ? He has a career milb record of 22-30 ? Or this year at AA Mississippi he was 0-2 with a 7.50 ERA ?
That last stat is why the Royals want him, remember Gobble had that horrendous 11. ERA and then came up lame ? yeah
Exactly my point.
Did we mention everyone wants to know if Jairo has a girlfriend ?
(What a hunk that Jairo is)
And know we leave you with a photo montage of the real loser in this move,
(It turns out an 8.71 ERA just isn't the style anymore)
Happy 6 Days to Halloween
Leaving you with an article from the new Royals Hall of Fame coming Spring 2009:
